Forgiveness Why and How Lesson Objective: The purpose of this lesson is to look at what the Bible says about forgiveness and why it is important to be able to forgive. Equally importantly we must learn how to forgive. Scriptures: Matthew 6:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18; Matthew 18:21-35; Matthew 5:7 2 Corinthians 12: 7-11 A. What is forgiveness- The act of forgiving 1 To give up resentment 2. To grant relief from payment 3 To cease to feel resentment against (an offender): PARDON B. How to Forgive 1. Understand importance of mercy- Matthew 5:7 a. Mercy is defined as “The act of sparing, or the forbearance of a violent act expected.” - Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary b.
