Hear the Word, Speak the Word and Do the Word Lesson Objective: To understand the importance of not just being hearers and believers of the word but being doers of the word. Scripture: James 1: 19-27 Proverbs 29:1 Need to be a fervant hearer (listener) And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Mark 4:9 There is a difference between hearning and listening Proverbs 29: 1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy Response to hearing will be either acceptance and change or refusal to accept and continual rebellion Acts 2: 38-39 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian James 1: 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; We have two ears and one mouth Speak the word Matthew 28: 19-20 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10:14 Everyone will not hear and accept the word Matthew 10:14: “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.” Acts 14: 3 They stayed there a considerable time and continued to speak boldly for the Lord, who kept affirming his word of grace and granting signs and wonders to be done by them Do the word James 1:21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you James 1: 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Old saying do as I say and not as I do Mark 11: 13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. How can we become doers and not just hearers of the word? Make our doing a habit Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Luke 4:16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read It is said to do something for 21 days and it will become a habit Find somone to hold you accountable Act with purpose and not by accident- identify act or scripture daily Actively seek opportunity
