How to Carry out the Great Commission

How to Carry Out the Great Commission Lesson Objective: To continue to understand the importance of evangelizing and how we can utilize our gifts to teach and make disciples using small groups as one of the desired methodologies. Scriptures: Matthew 28: 19-10; 2 Timothy 4:2 John 21:6; Matthew 9:17 Memory Verse: Matthew 28: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit The Great Commission ( Matthew 28: 19-20) and the Great Commandment(s)( Mark 12: 30-31) are seen by most Christians as the commandments for action foundations for which comes our beliefs. Definition of Disciple- any follower of Christ.   (initial capital letter) a member of the Disciples of Christ.   a person who is a pupil or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower: –verb (used with object)  to convert into a disciple There are several requirements for we as Christians in-order to carry out the Great Commission We must accept change in our lives: Christ discussed putting new wine in old wineskin- Matthew 9:17 We must understand that sometimes we need new direction in our lives – John 21:6 (fish on right side of the boat) Christ discussed with Nicodemus the need to be born again- John 3: 1-4 We must be willing to change our priorities -Matthew 19: 20-22 Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Accepting the Holy Spirit Day of Pentecost- Acts 1:4 and Acts 2:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; Holy Spirit received by accepting the word of God- Acts 10: 44-48 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word How do we share the Gospel Using our gifts from the Holy Spirit a.We all have gifts for the uplifting of the kingdom 1 Corinthians 12: 3-11                God expects us to use our gifts (talents) – Matthew 25: 14-30 Christ words to Peter the same to us- John 21: 15-19 2. Examples of sharing God’s word thru small groups: Acts 2: 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts Chapter 10 - Peter and Cornelius Acts 18 Then Paul left the synagogue and went next door to the house of Titius Justus, a worshiper of God. 8Crispus, the synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized. 24Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor] and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. 2 Timothy 4: 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. Be prepared to speak at all times. Whether to believers or non-believers Always speaking the truth It may be one on one- Phillip and Eunich Acts 8: 26-28 It may simply being an example to others Joshua 24: 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
