Importance of Obeying God Lesson Objective: To review the experiences of Adam and Eve in failing to obey God and how we can learn from their downfall. This lesson is based upon Bible Study developed by Saddleback Church. Scripture: Genesis 2: 15-17; Genesis 3: 1-3; 1 John 1:9; Matthew 5: 23-24 Memory Verse: 1 John 1: 9- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness- (NIV) Obedience is based upon our understanding of the need to listen to God and follow his commandments. The following can keep us from obeying God: Lack of Faith Lack of Trust Lack of understanding the need to listen and obey List all the things the God told Adam and Eve not to do- Genesis 2: 15-17 In what ways did the serpent change what God had said? Genesis 3: 1-5 Why did Eve eat the fruit? Genesis 3: 6 Why did Adam eat the fruit? Genesis 3:6 What are things in our life that are hard for us to obey? What did Adam and Eve do when they disobeyed God? Genesis 3: 8-13 What should they have done? What should we do when we do something wrong 1 John 1:9 Matthew 5: 23-24 Genesis 3:22  What could have happened if they had obeyed? What lesson do we learn and how should we share this lesson with others?
