Leadership Responsibilities and Failures
Leadership Responsibilities and Failures Lesson Objective: To continue the discussion on leadership and the results when leaders falter. Scripture: Isaiah 56: 9-12; Galatians 6: 1-2 Responsibilities of Leaders A Shepard and Watchmen Isaiah 56:9-12 All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. 10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. 11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. 12 Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant. Provide warning from danger- verse 10 Provide safety – verse 11 Look after the best interest of others-verse 12 Encourages Barnabas Acts 4: 36-37 2nd Timothy 1: 3-7 Examples for followers and others: Matthew 5:16 1 Timothy 4:12 Philippians 3:17 What happens when we falter? Have a heart of true repentance- Psalms 51 (1-3) Psalm 32:5 Not blame others but accept responsibility- 1 Samuel 15:24 How should others react when leaders falter Galatians 6: 1-2 Matthew 18: 15-17 Example of John Mark and how Paul and Barnabus split because of the disagreement and how both Paul and John Mark learned from this experience. Acts 15: 36-41 Col 4: 10 1 Peter 5:13 2 Timothy 4:11 Conclusion Don’t be in any rush to become a teacher, my friends. Teaching is highly responsible work. Teachers are held to the strictest standards. And none of us is perfectly qualified. We get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. If you could find someone whose speech was perfectly true, you’d have a perfect person, in perfect control of life James 3:1 MSG version My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
