Short Study on Book of John part 1

Short study of the Gospel of John Part 1 Lesson Objective: To understand the importance of the Book of John and how we can use it as a reference when witnessing for God. Scripture:  John Chapters 1-4 Introduction and Importance Who was John? Disciple of John the Baptist John 1 35-39 Member of the inner circle of Christ with Peter and brother James Considered to be the author of Gospel of John, 1, 2 3 John and Revelation The only disciple believed to die natural death Gospels while quite similar had different focuses Matthew focus on Christ the King with the geneology beginning with Abraham. Emphasis was directed toward Jews with Old testament verses Mark focus on Christ as a servant Luke focus on Christ as a human being with geneology beginning with Adam John focus on Christ as (God)the Savior John 20: 30-31 ( the purpose of the book) Christ as our saviour is the foundation of Christianity It is difficult for someone to believe without first reading John Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John Chapter 1 John identifies the lineage of Christ in the beginning of the Gospel. JOHN 1:1-3  1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him not even one thing was made that has been made “Word” is used to describe Christ consistent with Genesis chapter 1. ( God said) His name is also “Light” John 1:6-8 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. John 12: 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going John 1:14 The Word became flesh   JOHN 1:15-17  15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks higher than me, because He was before me.’” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John the Baptist continues to announce the arrival of Christ John 1:19-28 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; 27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. Baptism of Christ by John John 1: 29-34  noted as Lamb of God Selection of the Disciples John 1: 35-51
