Change but No Change

Scripture Matthew 5: 17-18

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Lesson Objective:  God’ expectiom for us has and will never change

I often smile when I hear a parent say that they cannot help their child with math homework because it is new math as if it has changed. One plus One is equal to Two is basic math and has and never will change. What may change is how we are taught to arrive at the answer but the answer is still the same. It is similar with how some people may think of the Church. Some would argue that the Church much continue to change to attract new members. I would suggest that the Church is not an amusement park that must add new rides or other gimicks to attract new customers and to retain old customers. The Church is a constant that should never change. The constant is the example of Christ and the expectations of Christ for Christians. Sin is a sin no matter how one may try to dress it up to look differently. As the old sayings if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it is a duck. A house is built on a solid foundation so that it will not shift with the winds of time. Houses that shift with the wind will soon crash.

Thought for the day: What is your foundation?
