Hearing God's Voice Part 3
Hearing God’s Voice Part 3 Decisions Decisions Decisions General Lesson Objective: This series of lessons explains how God speaks to men today and how to find His general and specific plans for our lives. A Christian model for decision making is presented, along with guidelines for overcoming wrong decisions, steps to take if you have missed the will of God, and methods for dealing with questionable practices Personal Objectives: Understand the two basic ways that God speaks to us Understand the two divisions of God’s will Identify ways of how God speaks to man Scripture: (Isaiah 30:21)Thine ear shall hear a word behind thee, saying This is the way, walk ye in it,when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left. (Proverbs 3:5-6)Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Review: Two Wills of God Boulema Sovereign It is the big picture of what is going to happen Thelema Individual Specific to each one of us We will concentrate on Thelema Seeking Guidance in the wrong place Occult-- Witchcraft 1 Samuel 15: 23-24 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, Casting of lots Acts 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Christ did not choose the disciples by lot but with the Holy Spirit Acts 13: 1-3 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off Paul and Barnabus were empowered by the Holy Spirit. False Prophets Mark 13: 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Superstition Colossians 2: 8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. Basic Facts about God’s Will God wants us to understand his will Ephesians 5: 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Psalms 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. God’s will is not just once and done but a process Isaiah 58:11 The Lord shall guide thee continually. Two divisions of God’s Will Revealed directly in the Bible General will for all mankind Includes specific commandments and promises to govern living includes general principles upon which specific decisions can be made When seeking an answer to a question first seek the answer in the Bible and if you find the answer then go no further That not revealed The individual life plan for each believer Includes specific decisions like residency, marriage, life work, ministry, etc Some decisions can be made based on Biblical general principles How does God speak to man Written Word Prayer Circumstances Counselors Open and closed doors Angels Miracles Dreams Vision Audible voice Inner voice Holy Spirit Things to do when you want to hear from God Pray Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. (Exodus 33:13) Study the Scripture Listen to inner voice of Holy Spirit .He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is in the mind of the spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:27) Seek Christian Counsel Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is a safety. (Proverbs 11:14) Use Biblical keys Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust Do not depend on your own judgment Always acknowledge God Take one step at a time Summary Now that we understand how God can talk to us and how to diligently seek to hear and know God’s voice, we must wisely use this information. The next and final session will be on how to make decisions.
