Labor Day Celebration
Celebrating Labor Day Lesson Objective: To discuss various scriptures in the Bible that demonstrate the importance of Labor Scripture: Ephesians 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need. Various Scriptures in the Bible that discusses labor (work) Ecclesiastes 9:9-10 Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom 1) How does meaningless in this verse relate to work? Luke 6: 43-45 For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [a]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 1) Why in the past did people sign their work? (inspected by) 2) How do the results of your labor demonstrate how well you labor? Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:23-24 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving 1) How does one do this in reality when they do not like their job? 2) How does one do this when they do not like their boss? 3) How does this fit with the verse Rejoice Always 1st Thessalonians 5:16 Ephesians 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need 1) What does this verse say about the purpose of working? 2) Please define stealing and give examples 2 Thessalonians 3: 10-13 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now those who are such we command and [a]exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 1) Do you agree? 2) How does verse 13 relate to work? 1 Thessalonians 4: 10-12 and indeed you do so toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; 11 that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, 12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing. 1) How does work allow us to witness? Summary Work is not a sign of selfishness but a sign of sharing Let our work be a testament to God We are not defined by our job but we are defined by the results of the job
