Looking To The Future
Looking To The Future Lesson Objective: To understand the importance of looking forward especially for us who profess to be Christians. Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14 One thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus. Did Paul mean to completely forget the past No he remembered the past Acts 26: 4-6 4 “The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem. 5 They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. 6 And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our ancestors that I am on trial today. Paul used the past to have faith in the future What is this Hope that put Paul on trial 1 Corinthians 13: 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love. Amplified Version Romans 8: 24-25 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? Verse 24 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Verse 25 Galatians 5: 22 Spirit of the Fruit - Patience Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see Definition of hope What is the meaning of Hope in English?
