Scriptures : Chapter 17-21 Introduction: John identifies Christ as the Savior Christ ministers to the masses Christ talks directly to the Disciples Christ interceeds directly to God Christ crucifixtionandresurrection Chapter 17 - Christ prays Verse 1- 5 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. Why is Christ asking for God to glorify him ? How does this apply to our prayers today? Verses 6-19 Christ prays for the disciples 6 I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you Why does Christ see the disciples as a gift? Christ recognizes that they have learned 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power ofyour name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. Christ prays for unity Christ prays for protection Verses 20-26 Christ prays for you and me 20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. Chapter 18 Christ is taken capture Judas betrays Christ 18: 2-3 Christ response I am… verses 4-6 Christ protects the disciples verse 8 Peter denies Christ three times Christ trials Chapter 19 Christ final trial and crucifixion Pilate finds no fault with Christ Verse 4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him. b.Christ again states his power 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” Crucifixion of Christ and buriel verses 16-42 Chapter 20. Resurrection of Christ Verses 1-2 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” Verse 14-16 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her. Christ meets with the disciples and breathes on them the Holy Spirit Chapter 21 Christ meets with the disciples and redeems Peter
