What Do You Want Out of Life? Lesson Objective: To identify fundamental foundations necessary in order for us to receive the many blessings that God has for us. Scripture: Jeremiah 45; Psalms 37; Deuteronomy 28; Romans 12:2; 2 Peter 1:5-15 Introduction Foundation Definition- Dictionary meaning an underlying basis or principle. Part of a structural system that supports and anchors the superstructure of a building Biblical meaning 1 Corinthians 3:11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock Ephesians 2: 19-20 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone Foundation of Christianity Hebrews 6: 1-2 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment Deuteronomy 28:1 If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. Foundation for living a Blessed life 2 Peter 1: 5-8 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control [a]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [b]barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ Elements of a strong foundation Faith, Virtue, Knowledge, Self-control, Perseverance, Godliness, Kindness, Love Faith- If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.Jeremiah 29:11 James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Virtue Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things Knowledge The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10 Self-control 2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control] Perseverance you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:3 Hebrews 10: 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised Godliness 1 Timothy 6: 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness Kindness Genesis 24:14 May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.” Love 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Summary Jeremiah 45 : 5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the Lord. “But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ’ ” Psalms 37 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
