What is the Attitude of this Church JICF?

What is the Attitude of this Church? Lesson Objective: The purpose of this lesson is to identify key attributes necessary for any Church to develop spiritual maturity and to upbuild the kingdom of God Scripture: Matthew 28: 18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Introduction: Attitude Definition: a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior Altitude Definition: the height of something (such as an airplane) above the level of the sea What is the importance of Attitude? Your altitude is most often decided by your attitude How high do you want to go? Did You ever know that You’re my hero, and everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle, ’cause You are the Wind beneath my wings. God through the Holy Spirit Is the wind beneath our wings but we must have Godly attitudes Godly Attitudes: o Love of God and our fellowman attitude o Truth Seeking attitude o Attitude of Servitude o Attitude for Action o Attitude of Forbearance and Patience o Attitude of Unity and Peace o ???????? Guess ????????? Love of God and our fellowman attitude Matthew 22: 37-40 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Truth Seeking attitude John 8: 31-34 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Attitude of Servitude Biblical definition Matthew 20: 26-28 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many It is interesting that one has the opportunity to choose to be a servant and as Christ said choose to serve and not to be served. Attitude for Action We have work to do- Matthew 9:37; Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Work and faith go hand in hand- James 2: 14-20 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. Attitude of Forbearance and Patience James 5: 7-8 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Need for patience with all - 1 Thessalonians 5: 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Attitude of Unity and Peace Definition of Unity- To become one in thought, desire, and purpose first with our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ, and then with other Saints Church should be joined together 1 Corinthians 10-13 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[b]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? Christ prayed for Unity for the Church- John 17: 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of[a] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. Summary Factors one should have for unity and peace- 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Love and commitment to truth leads to Unity and Peace Truly thinking of the well being of others- Philippians 2: 2-5 One Body- Ephesians 4: 2-6 Service to Others lead to Unity and Peace 1 Corinthians 12: 17-25 Serving the body - Romans 12: 3-8 Each using their gifts to build the kingdom of God Ephesians 4: 11-13 1 Corinthians 12: 14-16 We are all part of God’s family- 1 John 3: 1 Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. What attitude do YOU bring to the CHURCH?
