WHO IS THIS PERSON WHOM WE WORSHIP
WHO IS THIS PERSON WHOM WE WORSHIP Lesson Objective: To identify the attributes of Jesus and identify various reasons why we worship him. Primary Scriptures Gen. 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Isa 4: 17 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel Matt 1: 20-22 But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” 22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:… Rev 22: 12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. Introduction Who • Born of a Virgin and whose name is Jesus o Matthew 1: 20 21She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” o Meaning: The name "Jesus" is derived from the Hebrew name Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ), which means "Yahweh is salvation" or "The Lord saves. o Meaning: The title "Christ" comes from the Greek word Christos (Χριστός), which means "Anointed One." It is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word Mashiach (מָשִׁיחַ), or Messiah o The Anointed Savior sent by God to deliver humanity. • A member of the Trinity o Matthew 28: 19-20 • Son of God Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” Matthew 3: 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased What (High Priest and Intercessor) Hebrews 4:14-16 • "Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Luke 24:19-21 (Prophet and Redeemer) • "And he said to them, 'What things?' And they said to him, 'Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.'" When From The Beginning Genesis 1: 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. Where Matthew 28:20 "...And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Colossians 1: 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together Deuteronomy 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." Why John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life John 13: 34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Conclusion Christmas is a time when we celebrate the earthly birthday of Jesus Christ who came in accordance with the will of God so that we can be adopted into his family through Grace and Mercy. Knowing that he will return so that we can live with him in eternity
