  • Message: “Self-Control” from minister Leroy

JINAN INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIANS FELLOWSHIP (JICF)   SELF-CONTROL (Galatians 5: 22-23) All the fruit of the Spirit is the result of love and what keeps it all together is "self-control." Definition Temperance or self-control is a virtue that moderates passions and desires. So it's the act of controlling our feelings, our thoughts. SELF CONTROL AND ITS IMPORTANCE Matthew 7: 16-20 Just because the fruit looks good on the outside doesn't mean it's good on the inside. We have to be careful about our fruits. What image do we give to others as Christians, as children of God? how do we treat others? We must remember that we can do the right thing with God's help. God cannot ask us to do something without giving us the ability. If He asks us to walk in the Spirit to manifest the fruit of the Spirit is that we are able to do it. It’s actually our way of thinking that blocks the manifestation of things in our lives. If we say I can't, we couldn't. Let's use self-control to change the way we think, see things, use self-control to constantly renew our minds. Self-control also means praying ahead of the situations in our lives that we want to change. This is why we must always start our days with a presence or a communication with God to give him control. The very act of letting God take control of our lives requires self-control from our side. We have our part to do, God also has his part but because in certain circumstances we do not do our part this is the reason why certain promises of God are slow to be fulfilled in our lives. 2 Corinthians 5:14, self-control also means saying "NO" Jesus died for us so that all things that are not healthy in us and for us also die with him. That’s why these things no longer have any power over us and every time all kinds of negative thoughts come into our thinking system we need to be able to say NO firmly and with love for God. Because the more we love God, the more we control ourselves because we want to please Him not by our efforts but simply by doing our part and praying that God will do the rest. Let’s get up from our bad attitude and with the help of God let’s walk towards this wonderful creature that we are using self-control as a friend. Self-control also means controlling our clothes. What is it before us when we come out? Know that we represent God. Let's do it for the love of God. Let us dress decently and neatly while taking good care of ourselves. We must give thanks to God for having given us this ability and for putting this wonderful fruit within us so that we cannot be controlled by our feelings, thoughts and wills.     HOW TO DEVELOP SELF CONTROL 1 Corinthians 9:25 To think of self-control apart from the enabling strength of God is to think impractically. Self –control without the strength of God is like taking a trip without a road map or guide. God’s word helps define what it is. When we have the desire to treat our body harshly to obtain an incorruptible crown, our salvation, we have this capacity within us to give up certain habits. To do this we must develop self-control based on the strength that God has put in us. Obedience to the word and principles of God is a fundamental key to developing self-control. LOVE AND SELF-CONTROL Colossians 3-14 Love is action, it's the way we treat everyone including everyone who doesn't treat us properly. God loved us so much that he gave his only son, the more we love others the more we give and the happier we are. The more we are a blessing to others the more we are joyful. Knowing that we cannot be loved by everyone but yet we must love everyone and this requires regular discipline accompanied by self-control. JOY AND SELF CONTROL 1 Peter 3-10 We can increase our joy by controlling our language. May your words of comfort, of praise, that sincere compliments come out of our mouth for our blessings and fulfillment but also for the others around us. It is not our circumstances that steal our joy but rather the way we think about it or face it. We have the power to keep calm in the face of adversity because the joy of the Lord is our strength.   REMEMBER: Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. Our thoughts influence our mouth, our mouth influences our actions, our actions influence our habits, our habits influence our character and our character influences our destiny. Let us exercise daily self-control in order to glorify the Lord and to remain in the ways that he has already traced in advance for us for his Glory.     May God bless us abundantly!!!

Short Study Of The Book Of John Part 5 Lesson Objective: To continue to review the Book of John by highlighting those verses that reflect Christ as the Saviour. Scripture: John Chapters 11-12 Chapter 11---- Story of Lazarus Really understand that there is a reason for everything and that God’s will prevails. John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. John 11: 14-15  Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. They still did not understand really who Christ was 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” Isaiah 26: 19; Job 19:25-26 and Daniel 12:2 is thought to teach resurrection The beginning of the end- 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” 49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” Chapter 12- Verses 1-11 Christ with Mary, Martha and Lazarus Mary annoints his body Judas complains Verses 12-19 Palm Sunday Christ is cheered because of the resurrection of Lazarus Verses 20-36 Christ foretells his death 23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds Verses 37-50 Some believe and others did not Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved human praise more than praise from God.

Short Study Book Of John Part 4 Lesson Objective: To continue to learn how John shows Christ as the Savior Scripture:  John Chapters 8-10 Chapter 8 Woman who committed adultery John 8:3-4 “And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst," "They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act." Was this an attempt to discredit Christ in front of those who he was teaching? Why did they not also bring the man to Christ? Christ response based on scripture Genesis 17: 6-7 On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but he shall not be executed on the testimony of a lone witness. 7The hands of the witnesses shall be the first in putting him to death, and after that, the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you What does this tell us about judging and being judged? Continuation of discussion of who is Christ verse 13-end of the chapter John 6: 35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life.He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall neverthirst John 8: 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[c] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Chapter 9  Healing of the Blind man John 9:3 “Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." We do not need to understand or explain everything in life. Some people spent more time trying to find reasons to not believe than praising the man’s healing. John 9:14 “And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his" They were more concerned about the law than the man. John 9: 17-34 They continue to confront him about Christ The man wants to believe John 9:36 “He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on Him? John 9:37 “And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee." John 9:38 “And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him." Chapter 10 Christ continues his dialogue John 10: 7  Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. John 10:9 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Short Study  of the Book of John  Part 2 Lesson Objective:  To continue the study of the Book of John and further understand the importance of the book for new believers Scripture: Chapters 2-4 Chapter 2 Christ turns water into wine – first miracle John 2: 3-4 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. Why did Christ respond to his mother in such a “disrespectful” way? What does this teach us about how we make request im prayer? Christ cleans the temple John 2: 12-22 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. 17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. (Psalm 69:9) We must be careful of what we do in the Church that may not be consistent with the respect that we should have for the Church Christ understood the hearts of man Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. 24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man They still did not see him as Savior/God but only a miracle worker man Chapter 3 John 3: 1-21 is the focus of the Book of John and new believers must understand this concept Main verses John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved John understands fully his role as a witness for Christ 3: 21-36 Chapter 4 John continues his defense that Christ is the Savior Story of the Samaritan woman at the well 4: 9-10  Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life Christ demonstrates the true meaning of devoting ourselves to the task at hand 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” 33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?” “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Story of the Nobleman who asked for his son to be healed They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.” 49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

Short study of the Gospel of John Part 1 Lesson Objective: To understand the importance of the Book of John and how we can use it as a reference when witnessing for God. Scripture:  John Chapters 1-4 Introduction and Importance Who was John? Disciple of John the Baptist John 1 35-39 Member of the inner circle of Christ with Peter and brother James Considered to be the author of Gospel of John, 1, 2 3 John and Revelation The only disciple believed to die natural death Gospels while quite similar had different focuses Matthew focus on Christ the King with the geneology beginning with Abraham. Emphasis was directed toward Jews with Old testament verses Mark focus on Christ as a servant Luke focus on Christ as a human being with geneology beginning with Adam John focus on Christ as (God)the Savior John 20: 30-31 ( the purpose of the book) Christ as our saviour is the foundation of Christianity It is difficult for someone to believe without first reading John Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John Chapter 1 John identifies the lineage of Christ in the beginning of the Gospel. JOHN 1:1-3  1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him not even one thing was made that has been made “Word” is used to describe Christ consistent with Genesis chapter 1. ( God said) His name is also “Light” John 1:6-8 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. John 12: 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going John 1:14 The Word became flesh   JOHN 1:15-17  15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks higher than me, because He was before me.’” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John the Baptist continues to announce the arrival of Christ John 1:19-28 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; 27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. Baptism of Christ by John John 1: 29-34  noted as Lamb of God Selection of the Disciples John 1: 35-51
